How to start an online store in Pakistan — the complete 2026 guide

E-commerce in Pakistan keeps growing every year — but so does the number of half-built stores that never make a single sale. The difference is rarely luck. It is sequence: what you decide before building the store matters more than the store itself. Here is the complete path, in the order that actually works.

How much money you actually need

  • Domain + hosting (WordPress route): Rs 5,000–8,000 per year
  • Or Shopify subscription: ~$1 trial months exist, then ~Rs 8,000/month
  • First inventory (if holding stock): Rs 15,000–50,000 depending on product
  • Test ad budget: Rs 10,000–20,000 — this is where most sales come from
  • Realistic total to launch properly: Rs 30,000–75,000 — anyone promising 'zero investment' is selling you a dream

Deciding what to sell (before you build anything)

  1. 1Pick a niche you can source reliably — Faisalabad and Karachi wholesale markets, or AliExpress for imports
  2. 2Check demand: search the product on Daraz and note review counts — reviews mean sales
  3. 3Calculate real margin: product cost + packaging + courier + COD return losses + ad cost. If less than 30% remains, move on
  4. 4Start with 5–15 products, not 200 — depth of marketing beats width of catalogue

WordPress vs Shopify vs Daraz — honest comparison

  • Daraz: fastest start and built-in traffic, but 12–15% commissions, price wars and zero customer ownership — good for testing demand
  • WordPress + WooCommerce: cheapest to run long-term, full control, perfect for local COD selling — needs a bit more setup effort
  • Shopify: cleanest experience and best for international selling — monthly cost makes sense once orders are consistent
  • Our usual advice: validate on Daraz or Instagram → build WooCommerce for local scale → add Shopify when you go international

Payments & shipping — the Pakistani setup

  • Local: COD via Leopards / TCS / M&P + JazzCash & EasyPaisa for prepaid
  • International: Payoneer for receiving, Stripe via proper setup for checkout
  • Couriers: negotiate rates after your first 50 parcels — everyone does, prices drop meaningfully
  • Always send booking confirmations on WhatsApp — it cuts COD returns noticeably

Getting your first sales

  1. 1Product photos and descriptions matter more than the theme — AI tools now do both at professional level
  2. 2Meta (Facebook/Instagram) ads with click-to-WhatsApp are the highest-converting format for Pakistani stores
  3. 3Retarget everyone who messaged but didn't buy — the cheapest sales you will ever get
  4. 4Collect every customer's number (with permission) — your repeat-purchase list is the real asset

Learn it hands-on (not from random videos)

Everything in this guide — store building on both WordPress and Shopify, AI product content, Meta Ads and even selling these skills as a freelancer — is exactly what our AI E-Commerce Expert course teaches in physical classes at our Abbottabad campus. You launch a real store during the course, not after it.
